Known as the Jewel of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius has become a holiday
destination renowned worldwide for luxurious hotels and breathtaking beauty.

This tropical island boasts a multitude of high class hotels, resorts and
accomodation set in some of the most beautiful scenery. Approximately a
million people a year are fortunate enough to visit and enjoy the stunning
beaches, coral reefs, the friendly service, culture and sights this island offers.

Visitors are drawn to Mauritius by the reputation of its 140 km of white sand
and the superb opportunities for water sports. Scuba diving, water skiing,
snorkelling, windsurfing, kayaking are often free in your hotel, or are available at busier public beaches. For the more adventurous there are opportunities for submarine trips including brand new submarine scooters, parasailing, deep sea fishing. I strongly recommend taking the Undersea Walk excursion, it is truly something to remember.

Mauritius hotels range from the modest up to 6 stars, the hotels on offer in the international agents brochures offer excellent standards of service and facilities and international quality food, freshly prepared from the day's catch and from the chef's favourite local farms.

Hotels are located all around the coastline, separated into several main areas, Grand Baie in the North of the island is the liveliest and most popular area, here there are bars, nightclubs and the main shopping areas for tourists.

On the east coast there are the popular but quieter areas of Grande Gaube, Poste de Flacq and Trou D'Eau D'ouce, each of which are
equally inviting. Further south the Mahebourg area is popular and boasts being the former capital of Mauritius until the Mahe de Labourdonnais created Port Louis.

To the west is the popular wind surfing area of
Le Morne with it's dominant mountain and the steadily developing Flic en Flac which has a
great mix of having great hotels but also has a modest shopping centre and little nightlife too. The capital, Port Louis offers shopping, facilities and transport connections, but little in
the way of beach life, for this you have to go a further north to tranquil Trou Aux Biches.

The island of Mauritius is surrounded and protected by a coral reef making the sea calm, warm and welcoming all year round. The reef is an exciting place to explore and hosts incredible varieties of tropical fish and shellfish. But don't just stay in your hotel, you'll miss out on the colourful markets, historic sites, Museums, Gardens, Wildlife Parks and many other places to visit.

Finally, please recognise that the carbon emissions from your journey will affect this beautiful country and others like it around the world. I'm backing Carbon Offsetting as a way of reducing my carbon footprint with CO2Balance. Thank you for doing the same.

We have added a host of Mauritius information to this site in order to help you have a wonderful stay in the tropical paradise, please browse the site and leave us your feedback in our guestbook on how it can be improved. Thank you for visiting!
